From the start I knew I wanted to create manga or light novel illustrations, but I wasn’t overly sure of what I wanted for the story or the topic but after researching I settled on the idea of creating a manga based on being teleported to another world. This genre is typically referred to as isekai. The main trope in isekai is that the main character is overpowered so I wanted to create a subversion of expectations by making the main character be ridiculously weak with a light-hearted tone.
The story for my comic is about a stage magician who gets transported to a fantasy world where magic is common to have, and he must use his understanding of stage magic to survive in a world unlike his own. I want the book to be taken as a joke so I want the main character to be confident on stage but quite anxious because they’re unsure how long they can keep up the act they can do magic. Here are some of the concept drawings I have of the main character. I wanted him to look a little dopey but also flashy, it was hard balancing the two. This project still isn’t going to be fully finished until the 22nd of march so look out for that in the coming weeks.
